Sequels suck.
It's hard enough to make one good movie, but capturing the magic twice almost never happens. There are exceptions, but it's pretty much a given that any movie with a "2," a "II," a "Return of," or a "Son of" in the title is gonna stink.
And musicals? In the long history of the musical, no one -- and that means no one -- has been able to make lightning strike twice.
What, then, to make of a movie musical that wasn't very good to begin with, but somehow managed to capture the hearts and minds of America's youth?
To the horror of parents and musical buffs everywhere, High School Musical 2 (see?) premieres on the Disney Channel this weekend. Will Troy and Sharpay learn to work together? Will Kelsi's song win the talent show? Will anyone with an IQ over room temperature care?
Fortunately for fans of train wrecks, a greater disaster is on its way: High School Musical 3 is due in theaters next year.
