One, Two, Three Strikes: You're Out! - June 20, 2007

All across America this season, baseball fans have been counting the days until the big record is broken.

Oh, we're not talking about Barry Bonds beating Henry Aaron's home run record. We refer to a more important record: Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox shattering John McGraw's record for getting thrown out of games.

New York Giants manager McGraw was a notable hothead, but it took him 33 years to set the record. Cox will have done it in only 26.

The sight of managers and coaches going ballistic can always provide an air of dangerous entertainment to a game, whether it's Indiana Hoosiers basketball coach Bob Knight throwing chairs, Ohio State's Woody Hayes attacking an opposing player, or Mississippi Braves manager Phillip Wellman reenacting World War II. (There must be something about the Braves organization ...)

There's rumored to be a "magic word" that will get a skipper booted, but we think Cox isn't enough of a sucker to use it -- not even to break the record.
